Pets are the only NPCs in cube world that can be your companion, they are obtained by getting a pet food, then finding the appropriate creature, going into your bag and pressing the food, makinng your character hold it out, and then walking up to the creature.
After a little interaction, your pet food will be replaced by a cage with set pet in it, which you can now freely equip and use at will.
